Sambalpur, Dec 5: Sambalpur police on Sunday seized about 1 and a half crore cash of new and old currency notes from an i10 vehicle in the city.
An amount of Rs 1, 42, 91, 500 has been seized from an i10 car yesterday including Rs 85, 62,00 of new currencies, Rs 24 lakhs of old Rs 500 notesand legals currency notes less than Rs 100. Major amount has been seized the car and the other half was seized from a house after investigation.
In the matter, SBI main branch PRO, Rashmi Ranjan and liquor business manZeyarat Ali , along with 6 others were arrested.
Following an unknown tip of carrying guns, police searched the roads at checkpoints and got hold of two accused, Kapil Jhajharia and Rabi trivedi and after investigating found others. After seizing the car, police found the cash in gunny bags along with 2 guns. The investigation is on-going and hopefully they will find more people involved in the racket to convert black into white, said sources.
