Praveen Kumar Brings Silver For India In High Jump In T64 Category

And yet again, another silver for India, as India’s 18-year-old Praveen Kumar, competing in his debut Paralympics, set a new Asian record with a 2.07m High Jump in T64 category.

Earlier today, India’s Paralympic high jumper, Praveen Kumar, brought laurels for the country after he jumped to complete an Asian record of 2.07 metre in High Jump in the T64 category. Praveen who started his Para sporting career under Dronacharya coach Satyapal Singh, brought a shiny silver for the country while Englands Jonathan Broom-Edwards, who won silver at the 2016 Rio Games, won gold with a best jump of 2.10m.

With this India’s medal tally at the Tokyo Paralympic 2020 comes to 11, with 2 Gold, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze. For the first time ever in the history of Paralympic Games, till date, India has won 11 medals in all categories.TOKYO PARALYMPICS

India’s Padma Shri Paralympian, Deepa Malik, who won a silver for her country in the 2016 Paralympics Games at Rio also took to her twitter sharing this wonderful news and congratulating India & Praveen. She said, “Good morning India!! We have secured our 11th medal, this time in the Men’s High Jump T64 event courtesy Praveen Kumar. What a fabulous performance to bring home silver. The country will be proud of his exceptional effort!”

Congratulating Praveen, PM Narendra Modi, on his Twitter handle, said,”Proud of Praveen Kumar for winning the Silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympic 2020. This medal is the result of his hard work and unparalleled dedication. Congratulations to him. Best wishes for his future endeavours.”
