12-hour Bandh at Birmaharajpur today by farmers’ activists

Birmaharajpur, Aug 22: Today a dawn to dusk Bandh is witnessed in at Birmaharajpur in Subarnapur by a farmers’ body named Krushak Bishad Parishad in order to protest against the non-payment of input subsidy and crop insurance dues to farmers who suffered a loss of crops during the last year’s drought.

They also asked for an end to the water tax collection as canal water is not being provided to agricultural land since 2004. The farmer’s here staged road blocks at various chhaks of the town. Shops and offices both government and non-government were closed down and transportation was stopped here thus creating problems for the common people. By holding placards and shouting anti-government slogans the farmers smashed the state for its various anti-farmers policies.
