Currently 144 Vande Bharat are operational in Country. The operational feedback of this train is very encouraging, due to which more demands for such trains are generating from the states, said Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in reply to a question in Lok Sabha today. While replying the question, he said that all the states have been covered with the Vande Bharat train service in a short span of three years.
The Railways Minister reported that the number of general class coaches has risen in recent years, with 70 percent of the total 82,000 coaches being general and non-AC coaches.
The Vande Bharat Express is a semi-high-speed express train service designed for medium to long-distance travel. This is a reserved, air-conditioned chair car service linking cities within 800 km (500 km) or under ten hours of journey time, alongside a proposed reserved, air-conditioned sleeper service for cities ranging from 800 km (500 mi) to 1,200 km (750 mi) away. The train was part of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and commenced commercial operations on 15 February 2019.
