In a worst firework mishap on Friday, 15 workers died while 33 got injured in a explosion ripped off, due to friction during some chemicals mixing, at Sree Mariyammal firework factory near Vembakottai in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu.
The CM has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh each to the kin of deceased and Rs 1 lakh each for the critically injured.
Further, an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of the deceased has been been approved from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Rs 50,000 will be provided to those seriously injured, the Prime Minister’s Office said in Delhi.
According to the collector of Virudhunagar, who visited the accident site and the hospital said, that 15 workers have lost their lives and 10 workers (among the 33) have got severely burnt in the mishap. Later, the Joint Director (Health Service) informed that, 10 victims suffered 100% burns whereas eight victims have 60% to 90% burns. some have shifted to government hospitals of Madurai and Thoothukudi.
