BERHAMPUR, APRIL 21: Odisha government has decided to sink 370 tubewells in the tribal-dominated Kandhamal district to ward off shortage of drinking water in the district.
According to Executive Engineer Rural Water Supply & Sanitation SK Kar, 350 villages, where the crisis is acute, have been identified.
He also said work has started on digging these tube wells and will be completed by end of June this year.
Kar said efforts are also on to energize the defunct tubewells and as many as 22 mobile vans have been pressed into service to make them functional.
Notably, due to rising temperature, all springs and nullahs have dried up and people in rural areas are trekking over five km to fetch water.
