Bargarh, May 13: Protesting over the refusal of Omfed to collect milk from dairy farmers in Atabira and Bheden areas, dairy owners Thursday opened the valve of the milk tanker and spilling milk on the road.

As much as 14,000 liters of milk flowed on the road near Gandhi Square here.

According to sources, the farmers were agitated when Omfed staff refused to collect milk from these dairy owners terming it as adulterated.

The farmers stopped a milk tanker and opened its valve spilling the entire milk on the road.

The Omfed tanker was carrying milk from Barpali society to Omfed plant.

Omfed General Manager Kishore Kumar Nayak alleged that the farmers were earlier warned about adulteration.

“Earlier, we had warned them about the same. Today, we sent back 8,000-9,000 litres of milk brought by the farmers of these societies,” he said.

Nayak said sugar and salt was added to the milk that was being procured from those areas.

Nayak said he has discussed the issue with the agitating farmers and advised them to exclude those farmers who were indulging in adulteration.

The farmers, however, alleged that Omfed had been rejecting milk brought by the farmers in those areas.

Omfed authorities have directed the company’s local officials to register a case against the people who opened the valve of the tanker.
