Bhubaneswar: July 05: Opening ceremony of 22nd Asian Athletics Championship kicked off at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar and Odisha’s name dazzled in Sports’ History of the World. Kalinga Stadium was well prepared to welcome to the talents of Asia. On the day of its inauguration, Kalinga Stadium was looking so different that, it was never seen before.
Mascot of the meet, ‘Olly’ led the march-past of the athletes into the stadium. Athlete Tintu Luka was the flag bearer for the Indian contingent which received a huge welcome from the crowd.
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the event as balloons hit the sky and fireworks decorate the skyline with colourful lights. Odia athlete Srabani Nanda had the honour of taking the oath on behalf of athletes at the inaugural ceremony. Various Cultural programs were performed with thrilling display of music, dance, lasers and fireworks. The inaugural ceremony will be followed by many track and field events from tomorrow.
