Self-sufficiency plans made by State Government for Juang tribe in Nagada

Cuttack, Aug 4: On being appreciated by the Central Team for the initiatives taken up for development in Nagada, the state government has further decided to inculcate measures in order to bring about change in the livelihood of the Juang tribe that inhabits the village, by imparting them training on bamboo crafts, animal husbandry, collection and sale of forest products in the market to earn a living. To avoid any further deadly situation of malnutrition in the village, ration will be given to each inhabitant family living there and it’s also been decided to conduct awareness programmes on health care, education, connectivity, food security, light, drinking water, which are currently underway in the village. For long-term measures, Odisha Livelihood Mission in accordance with the Odisha Government will be starting off to collect data so that the income generation of these tribal can be sustained. Steps to provide education to the kids are also being initiated. Children below 10 years of age or more having no formal education will be given a short course after which they would be admitted in the residential school. The government has further made plans to upgrade the Upper Primary school in the village to Middle English school and alongside 100-bedded residential hostel for these children will also be established.

Nagada to become a model project of development for other remote village area in the state is what the state government hopes to. Sources reveal that the state government has prepared a format which has been sent to all the district collectors to identify villages having zero access by August 12, post which the state government will extend all provisions to these villages the way it has made for the Nagada village.
