Bhubaneswar, Aug. 11: In consonance with the sentiments for “Yaad Karo Qurbani” expressed by Shri Prakash Javadekar, Hon’ble Minister for HRD, Govt. of India, and SOA University is celebrating the “Azaadi 70” fortnight by organising appropriate events from 9 to 23 August 2016. The programme kicked off on Tuesday with the students celebrating the Quit India Day by holding a march of NCC Cadets in uniform saluting the freedom fighters followed by patriotic songs dedicated to the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh atrocity.
Groups of students accompanied by faculty members will visit nearby birth places of freedom fighters including Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Utkal Mani Gopabandhu Dash and others. They will have interactions on their sacrifice to be shared with local youth who may not be able to fathom the significance of our struggle for independence. On the 15th August, as part of the celebrations, an “Azaadi 70” human pyramid formation will be created by 70 participating students of the University.
Deans of different institutions will conduct essay writing, quiz and debate competition on lives and history of Icons of freedom struggle on 11, 12 and 13 August. Members of Srishti Club, Art Wing of the SOA University will conduct a painting competition. There will also a midnight “Mashaal Michhil”: candle-light procession by students spanning the different campuses of the University.
