New Delhi, Aug 12: For promoting handicrafts, senior BJD leader and Kendrapara MP, Baijayant Panda yesterday made a request to the Union Textiles ministry to utilize e-Commerce platforms to get the handicrafts workers listed on it instead of spending time, energy and effort from the government and a large budget. He mentioned about the Odia e-commerce site, www.thumri.com which has been promoting handicrafts in Bhubaneswar.

To this, Union Textile minister, Smriti Irani answered in the Lok Sabha that these small start-ups have proved to be more productive in their engagement with the weavers because they have gone from one batch of weavers to another and are individually engaged with them. Similar exercises can be undertaken in the handicrafts sector as well.
