Bhawanipatna, Aug 22: On Saturday in Shaktinagar Pada a newly married woman named Priyadarshani Mahapatra was allegedly burnt to death by her in-laws. The incident opened out on Sunday.

It’s stated that a major quarrel cropped up between the woman and her husband over some minor problem on Saturday. As a result, her outraged in-laws allegedly burnt her to death after pouring kerosene on top of her. The police seized the body and began investigating. In the meantime, they have also taken Ajay, her husband for interrogation. This all took place on the complaint filed by the mother of the victim, Biprabhasini Mahapatra. The complaint said the deceased had tied the knot with Ajay two years ago and since then she had been put to harassment for dowry by her in-laws.

On Saturday, they strangulated her to death and later set her ablaze. Officer, Surendranai Satpathy informed the media that as per the complaint the in-laws had demanded a bike and some money as dowry from the girl’s family and a quarrel had occurred on Saturday for the same reason.

However, Ajay’s sister-in-law, Chinmayee Mahapatra refused the allegation calling this a suicidal matter.
