Cuttack, Sep 6: Today the Orissa High Court granted an anticipatory bail to Odisha’s BJD party legislator, Debesh Acharya related to the Union Minister Santosh Gangwar’s convoy attack incident in Bargarh on June 24 this year. The HC also demanded not to begin any coercive action against the MLA while judging a petition seeking closing of the case on July 26. Post 14 days of the incident, on July 4, Bargarh MLA Debesh Acharya and his elder brother had moved the Orissa high court seeking for anticipatory bail.
Following the incident, a case was registered under sections 147, 148, 341, 294, 506, 427, 323, 307 and 249 of the IPC at the Bargarh police station. At least 16 persons were also arrested in connection with this case. On being attacked by the BJP, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had ordered for an RDC probe on June 28. Revenue Divisional Commissioner (North) was in charge inquire into the matter.
