Bhubaneswar, Sept 14: To protest against the Polavaram Project, the ruling BJD today will stage dharna in front of the Raj Bhawan and will be submitting a memorandum addressing it to the President, Pranab Mukherjee through the Governor of Odisha.

Also it would stage revolt demonstrations on Sept 20 ahead of the district Collector’s offices in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kandhamal just to intensify its protest. They would also carry out a peaceful ‘Hartaal’ on October 7 in all seven districts of Southern Odisha which would be affected by this project. Odisha CM, Naveen Patnaik has appointed observers who would be supervising the protests.

BJD has been alleging that the Polavaram project will submerge parts of Malkangiri and Rayagada. The fact that the approval of the project is a testament of both Central and Andhra governments’ anti-Odisha policy, BJD demands cancellation of the environmental clearances given to the project illegally. Whereas, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu had an Ariel review of Polavaram’s progress yesterday.

On concluding the review, Naidu expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi due to the statement made that the Central Government would bear all the project cost. He further added that the first phase work of the project is likely to finish by 2018 and his government will convert the impossible into possible.

It’s stated that the Andhra CM will review the project every week through a camera installed at the project site and will be visiting the site on the third Monday of every month.
