Bhubaneswar, Sept. 18: With healthcare technology undergoing a revolution in the past decade, the SOA University here is focusing on the establishment of a superlative Centre for Bio-mechanical engineering soon, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amit Banerjee said on Friday.
“We are planning to set up this facility for intense research. The University already has an inter-disciplinary research council,” Prof. Banerjee said while speaking at the inauguration of a two-day National Seminar on ‘Advanced and Innovative Technology for Transforming Healthcare’ at the University.
Prof. Banerjee said India does not lack in innovative ideas but they need to be properly channelized to benefit the society.
The seminar, sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, has attracted a galaxy of researchers and academicians from across the country.
The experts attending the seminar included Prof. A.G.Ramakrishna, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, Dr. Ram B.Hatangadi, Director, Philips Healthcare, Bengaluru, Dr. V.V.Raghavendra Sai of Biomedical Engineering Group, IIT, Madras, Dr. Tapan Kumar Gandhi, IIT, Delhi and Prof. Gautam Saha, IIT, Kharagpur.
The speakers said that healthcare technology had been advancing over the last few years aiming to ensure cost-effective, accurate, less invasive and faster devices and the seminar would demonstrate the impact of integration of medical science and engineering for better healthcare.
The seminar, they said, had provided a platform for academicians, researchers and industry professionals to exchange ideas and results in areas of biomedical instrumentation, biosensors, signal, image processing and neural engineering in healthcare applications.
