Rayagada, Sept 20: A pregnant woman of Ghagudimal village under Kalyansinghpur block and her new born baby died on Monday in the district, as the ‘102’ ambulance failed to reach the patient in time.

As per sources, after the pregnant woman started experiencing labour pain that morning, the family members of the woman dialed for a ‘102’ ambulance. However, after waiting for some time, the ambulance didn’t turn up, and so they arranged a cot to take her to the Kalyansinghpur hospital.

The ambulance reached after they travelled for about two kilometers from their village, but the condition of the woman had deteriorated by then.

Unfortunately, due to poor health condition of the woman, the infant died soon after the woman delivered the baby at the hospital. Doctors treating the lady referred her to Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). The lady took her last breath at the DHH.

This incident again leaves behind a question on the implementation of the various Government schemes for the pregnant women and infants in the tribal areas.
