2nd revised edition of the book ‘Cosmopolitan Modernity in Early 20th-Century India’ released

Bhubaneswar: May 24: 2nd revised edition of the book  ‘Cosmopolitan Modernity in Early 20th-Century India’, with a new preface authored by Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Orissa, has just been published in a new South Asian and Global edition worldwide.

This pioneering volume, endorsed by some of the top thinkers in the field, such as Harish Trivedi, Malavika Karlekar, Meena Alexander and Barbara Nelson presents an alternative view of cosmopolitanism, citizenship and modernity in early 20th Century India through the multiple lenses of mysticism, travel, friendship, art and politics. Using archival texts and photographs, Prof. Mohanty interrogates the ideas of traditions and modernity, the local and the global and self and the world as integral to the conception of a cosmopolitan world order.

The 2nd edition will interest scholars and students of modern Indian history, comparative literature, cultural studies, Indian philosophy, south asian studies and general readers.

Prof. Mohanty was earlier Professor and Head, Department of English, University of Hyderabad.

He has published 29 books in English and Odia with leading national and international publishers such as SAGE, Routledge, Orient Longman and Oxford University Press. He has been the recipient of prestigious awards like the Katha, Salzburg, British Council and the Fulbright.
