Pune, Nov 26: Noted journalist Dileep Padgaonkar took his last breath on Friday at the Ruby hall Clinic, Pune, where he was admitted 4 days ago. A mild heart attack and a multi organ failure resulted to his end, said sources. Dileep was 72 at this time.
A passionately eloquent speaker and an equally a passionate writer, Dileep was tireless against todays major pressing issues like communalism, hindu nationalism and terrorism.
He was a doctorate in humanities from Sorbonne in France. Being fluent in French, in 68’ he joined Times Of India as its Paris Correspondent and in 88’ he was Appointed as the Editor. He also served with the UNESCO in Bangkok and Paris from 1978 to 86’. He was also appointed as one of the members of the three-member interlocutors group on Jammu and Kashmir, set up by the government after continuous unrest in the Valley in 2008.
The veteran journalist had once said that he held the second most important job in the country after the Prime Minister.
