Two minors bear violence consequences; one dies other survives but unknown from speaking again or not

Bhubaneswar, Jan 18: Two minor girls went on to bear the horrible consequences of violence. While one succumbed, the other managed to survive not knowing whether she will be able to speak again or not.

Yesterday, the minor who was being treated at the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) here for being set on fire by two youths for protesting eve-teasing at Madhupur village in Narla, died. She was a student of TRW School at Madhupur under Lanjigarh block. The incident happened when she had gone to a nearby stream to attend nature’s call on Wednesday afternoon. then two youths, identified as Bulu Das and Shyama Sahoo of the same village, had passed obscene comments on her. She protested and informed the matter to her parents. Her mother cautioned the youths for the act. Enraged by her mother’s warning, the two youths abused the girl’s father in presence of others and in the evening on finding the girl alone in her house, the youths trespassed and allegedly set her on fire after dousing her with kerosene oil. Crime Branch (CB) of Odisha police have declared it as a red flag case and are continuing their investigation into the incident. The CB has taken the two arrested accused on a five-day remand. The motive behind the attack is being probed and investigation is going on to find out the others who could be involved in the crime. Police have already arrested 6 persons including the parents of the accused. Two teams have been engaged in the investigation into the incident. While one team is at the Narla area the other is at Rourkela. Another team with an SP-rank officer will be visiting Kalahandi today. From today, three teams will conduct the investigation.

In another such heinous crime, a man was arrested yesterday from the Seashore at Bada Arjeepalli in Ganjam for allegedly slitting a minor girl’s throat and attempting to drink her blood. Identified as U bairagi (33), of Bada Arjeepalli, the accused sliced the minor girl’s throat, who stays in his neighborhood, with a razor blade while she was playing with her friends on Sunday afternoon. After slicing her throat he tried to drink her blood, said sources. The girl was rescued in a very critical condition and was rushed to the sub divisional hospital at Chhatrapur and later was shifted again, where she is undergoing medical treatment at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, and is still stated to be critical. Though according to doctors, she is out of danger after battling for life at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, uncertainty looms large over her ability to speak again in life. The locals near the Gopalpur port jetty caught him while he was trying to escape after committing the crime and handed him over to the police. Bairagi was arrested and forwarded to court, which sent him to jail. Reasons for the incident are yet to be known. Bairagi hasn’t revealed anything about the brutal incident. However he appeared to be mentally good but blood marks were detected on his face and mouth.
