Female tusker electrocuted in Rourkela, Odisha

Rourkela, Jan 25: Today a dead female elephant was sighted at the Garada village under Bisra forest here in Sundergarh district. As per the locals, on Tuesday night, a herd of elephants strayed into the village area in search of food and destroyed some standing crops. The female jumbo was eating leafs of Mangoo tree during which it came in contact with a live wire. The pachyderm died on the spot. The villagers immediately informed the forest officials following which the range staff arrived at the spot and seized the body. Also the energy department officials rushed to the spot and began investigating that under what circumstances the elephant touched the live wire.
