Padma Shri awardees: Sadhu Meher, Dr Mukut Minz, Jitendra Harpal and Aruna Mohanty

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi, Jan 27: Noted cine personality Sadhu Meher, eminent doctor Dr Mukut Minz, renowned Sambalpuri folk singer Jitendra Haripal and famous Odissi dancer Aruna Mohanty are featured in the list of Padma awardees, which was announced by the Government of India on the eve of Republic Day. Sadhu Meher is well known for his remarkable contribution towards the movie industry including the Hindi cinema world with outstanding work in Bhuvan Shome, Ankur and Mrigaya. He is one of the founders of Indian parallel cinema in mid 1980s. Dr Mukut Minz, the HOD of Renal Transplant Surgery at Mohali-based Fortis Hospital, has been serving people for more than 30 years after passing out the MBBS degree from Burla medical college in 1976. Dr Minz got a wide media coverage recently when he successfully undertook a kidney transplant surgery on External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj. The Government of India also named Jitendra Harpal to receive the Padma Shri award. Harpal is the singer of Rangabati song which has been one of the popular songs in the country till date. The Padma awards are conferred in recognition of exceptional non-military achievements in different fields including arts, sports, education, medicine, social work and industry.
