Jharsuguda, Mar 8: The state Crime branch yesterday started an investigation into the death of the 17-year old girl Sanjukta Jaipuria who was the victim of a religious superstition and was killed by her cousins.
The special investigation team (SIT) yesterday arrived at Bijapali village and inquired about the incident with the deceased family, relatives and neighbours. The SIT took information about Suchitra Dhuruan, a religious preacher, who is also said to be involved in the murder and was arrested on charge of stimulating the main accused to commit the crime.
The Rengali police have since arrested 12 people in regards of the case along with the girl’s parents for their alleged involvement in the murder.
Sanjukta’s case has been marked as a priority with a red flag and will be monitored on regular basis.
Notably, Sanjukta Jayapuria, was beaten to death by her relatives, who claim, of being possessed by Lord Brahma & Lord Vishnu, in Bijapali Village at Jharsuguda, on 2nd of March. On the night of her death, Sanjukta along with her family were offering their prayers, when two of her cousins entered the house and assaulted her, and hit her till she succumbed to her death on the spot. The assaulters also thrashed her family members.
