5 Killed and more than 30 injured as Bus fell off the bridge in Sambalpur District:

Sambalpur: January 24: Five persons died and 32 others injured after a Bus going from Sambalpur to Rairangpur fell off the bridge near Gaudapalli Village in Sambalpur district last night. Sources said, the driver reportedly lost control of the bus and it fell off the bridge.

Sambalpur Collector, SP and other officials reached the spot with Police personnel and fire brigade immediately and started rescue operations. The rescue operations went on for nearly four hours after which the injured were rushed to Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and  Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla.

Till now five persons have already been died and the death toll is likely to increase as many of the injured were in critical conditions.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for kin of those killed in the accident. He also announced free medical check-up for the injured passengers.
