5 of 10 abducted girls escape from Maoists captivity in Malkangiri, Odisha

Malkangiri, Nov 23: Five minor girls who all were kidnapped forcefully and were being sexually exploited by the militants here somehow managed to escape from their captivity. It’s stated that over Maoists had abducted over ten minor girls from their respective houses belonging to the cut-off area of Chitrakonda here. Five of them were successful in getting away from the Maoists clan. This happened during the Panasput police encounter where the militants ran haywhere. It’s stated that these five girls are now at the rehabilitation slum.

Rashmi (name changed) of Maribeda village under Andrapali panchayat narrated the incident. She said she was studying in class-VII in Nandiniguda Kanyashrama under Kudumuluguma block. She was on Dussehra vacation and passing her holidays happily with family members when the extremists barged into her house and abducted her. She went on to further say that among the naxalites, even women cadres used to exploit them physically and were engaging in their day to day work at gunpoint. After death of 30 guerrillas in the October 24 Panasput encounter, these five managed to escape from their custody. Adter going a long way, these girls reached at Totaguda, from where they took a boat to Muduliguda village and then reached at Kudumuluguma by foot. Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra condemning the brutal incident said that a case will be registered against the Maoists on the basis of the girl’s statement and stringent action will be initiated.
