New Delhi: June 28: The Income Tax department will be establishing over 60 facilitation centres as Aaykar Seva Kendras in this fiscal year from Goalpara in Assam to Neemuch in MP as an effort to widen the taxpayer base to reach a maximum number of people who need help in doing business with the taxman.

Sources said, as a blueprint, the Central Board of Direct Taxes authorized the creation of 60 ASKs at Goalpara and Morigaon in Assam, Siliguri and Haldia in West Bengal, Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu, Haridwar and Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, Hardoi and Lakhimpur in UP, Dahod nad Porbandar in Gujarat, Neemuch and Mandsaur in MP, Jajpur and Puri in Odisha and Rewari and Sonepat in Haryana within the financial year 2016-17 that ends in March 31 next year.

The effort is to reach more and more people so that they can get their PAN made, understand taxation issues and also those under the tax bracket do not have to travel far to get their issues resolved. The field offices need to constitute local teams under the range heads for speedy creation of these centers.

The ASKs help a person in conducting their personal and business operation with the department ranging from obtaining a new Permanent Account Number (PAN) to filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) apart from other income tax related subjects. A number of ASKs are currently operational in prominent cities and towns in the country.
