Cuttack: As many as eight people were injured by the kite manja in the last five days in Cuttack and its outskirts. Despite restrictions there has been no action taken against the use of plastic threads for kite flying.

Recently a man named Aniket was injured as the kite manja tore his skin and neck while he was returning via Trishulia to Cuttack. He was rushed for treatment at the earliest.

In the last five days in Cuttack and nearby areas eight pedestrians have been injured. The High Court banned the use of plastic manja in 2016. However, even after nine years people are still using the plastic thread.

Commissionerate police has started a raid to seize the manja and plastic threads at several locations.

Kite flying during Makar Sankranti which is regarded as a source of entertainment has risked the lives of general public. If the ban of the manja is followed in action this may lead to more severe situations.
