‘Smart’ Bhubaneswar now among ‘cleanest’ too

Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: Already topping the first list in Smart City race, Bhubaneswar now has another feather on its cap after being adjudged one of the cleanest cities in the country by the Union Urban Development ministry under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

“We got a call from Ministry that Bhubaneswar has been adjudged a clean city. I would like to urge everyone to get inspired by this accolade and work further towards ensuring cleanliness and better sanitation. We have launched a no-open defecation drive and are improving our sewerage infrastructure to achieve better cleanliness,” said Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.

According to sources, Bhubaneswar has emerged one the cleanest cities as per a sanitation survey carried out by the Quality Council of India (QCI) on behalf of the ministry. The survey Swachh Sarvekshan, was conducted between January 1-January 20, across 75 cities across the country.

From Odisha, apart from Bhubaneswar, Cuttack was also part of the Swachh Sarvekshan.

The honour will be conferred on the Capital city by the Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu at the National Media Centre, New Delhi.
