Rourkela, Feb 17: Five terrorists, including a woman, of banned Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) were arrested by Police in Rourkela late Tuesday night after a 3-hour-long encounter.
According to sources, the four of them were staying at a rented flat Qureshi Mohalla.
A joint team of Special Operations Group (SOG), Telengana Police, Rourkela Police and Intelligence Bureau launched a raid at the place and arrested the four.
“All the four are involved in the activities of SIMI in Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. They were taking shelter in Rourkela using a false identity. They were staying in Rourkela since past 4-5 months. They were staying in Rourkela to collect money through dacoity for their other operations. All the four hail from Madhya Pradesh and are also wanted by NIA,” said Singh.
Their interrogation is on to find more information about them, Singh added.
Security forces also seized 5 guns and ammunition from their possession, added sources. Meanwhile, no civilian casualties were reported in the 3-hour-long operation at a residential area.
Police DG KB Singh informed that the four nabbed terrorists were the member of SIMI and were wanted by NIA.
Moreover, the four were also involved in a bank robbery, said Intelligence Bureau director Arun Sarangi.
They are also suspected to have been involved in many terror activities outside the state, informed police sources.
Meanwhile, police sources also said that they have been kept at a secret location for interrogation.
