Bhubaneswar, Feb 22: Congress In-charge of Odisha affairs BK Hariprasad has alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi lacked sympathy for the farmers in the country and the rally at Bargarh was a political stunt only.

Hari Prasad told newsmen here that if the Prime Minister had any sympathy for the farmers of the State, then he could have announced a package for them as farmers’ suicide issues were on the rise.

Further, Modi also did not utter a word against the State’s BJD government which has been insensitive towards the farmers plight in the wake of drought in the State, the Congress leader alleged.

“This proves the Honeymoon between the BJD and BJP,” he said.

Criticizing the Prime Minister for not meeting any family member of farmers, who ended life due to crop loss and loan burden, Hariprasad said the NDA government has been trying to hide the weakness and lacunae of BJD to seek their support in the Rajya Sabha where it was in minority.

The Modi government, which came to power on the plank of corruption, has also not initiated any action against the BJD many of whose leaders were involved in the multi-crore chit fund scam in the State, Hariprasad said.

“The tall claims of Modi such as Gujarat Model, Achhedin, Jandhan scheme and security to women and children have just remained slogans,” he said adding, “ Modi government has failed to announce any special provision for the farmers such as Minimum Support Price and bonus as implemented during the UPA government.”
