Magha Mela begins at Joranda

Dhenkanal, Feb 22: The three-day long Magha Mela in Joranda – international headquarters of Mahima dharma- began here on Sunday with religious fervor by the sect followers.

All roads led to Mahima Gadi today with a huge number of followers reaching the area in all modes of transport.

Mahima Gadi management comprising both Bakaldhari and Kaupanidhari groups had finalized the preparations starting from  beautification drive to final arrangement for convenience of lakhs of devotees expected to attend the event.

The three-day mela which begins on occasion of Baba Purnima tomorrow is meant to remember Mahima Gosain, founder of Mahima dharma.

These two days are considered auspicious by the devotees.

According to Kaupanidhari Mahima Samaj president Raghunath Baba, the sadhus got up at 3 am in the morning and the temple rituals began at 4 am with a ‘parikrama’ by devotees chanting bhajans in the praise of the Gosain.

The hymns comprise eight hymns of Santhakabi Bhimbhoi.

Jhadas were set alight as the sun set seeking welfare of the mankind.

On third day there will be congregation of devotees who will share cooked food together”. District Administration has made elaborate arrangement to control the crowd and avoid any untoward incident.
