Odisha Construction workers to get benefits from Housing, Pension schemes

Bhubaneswar, Oct 14: In a bid to provide facilities to the construction workers under State’s several welfare programmes, Odisha government has decided to include them under the housing and pension schemes.

This was decided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during a meeting at State Secretariat here on Tuesday.

As per the decision, the State’s housing scheme will start by end of November and the pension scheme will begin by December this year.

Under housing scheme, houses will be constructed for the rural construction workers through the Panchayatiraj department. The government will spend Rs 1 lakh each for beneficiaries. The houses will be made this year at cost of Rs 30 crore for 3,000 construction workers dwelling under poverty line. Meanwhile, the urban construction workers will get benefits under the recently launched urban housing scheme Mission Abaas.

Similarly, the government will include the construction workers above 60 under pension scheme. Under the programme, the beneficiaries will be provided Rs 500 per month.
