Bhubaneswar July 1: The Federation of All Odisha Traders Association (FAOTA) informed media on Thursday that post reduction of VAT on pulses from 5% to 1%, the prices of the same are likey to get down by Rs 4 or Rs 5 per kg from today.

The objective behind this decision is to control the prices and also to reduce the strikes by traders which had happened because of a high fall in the production of pulses due to drought in major parts of the country. FAOTA Secretary, Sudhakar Panda reported the same adding that, the state government would now get revenue of Rs 60 per annum from pulses as compared earlier alongside the traders will also carry out their business in a more transparent way.

Notably, the State cabinate  presiding over by chief minister Naveen Patnaik, had approved a proposal to reduce VAT on pulses from 5% to 1% three days ago. Abolition of VAT on pulses was a long standing demand of the traders. Production of pulses had been declining the last few years due to variation in climate due to delayed monsoon which inner way led to high prices of pulses of all kinds.
