Cuttack, July 20: The Dowry torture case filed by Barsa Swony Choudhury, daughter-in-law of former minister, Raghunath Mohanty against her husband, Rajashree was disposed off by the Orissa High Court on Wednesday.

The disposal was carried out on the basis of the affidavit filed by Barsa on June 14 where she had appealed the court to dismiss the case filed by her against her spouse, thus informing that the matter had been settled out of court. She had reported to the court that she wanted to start her married life afresh. Both the husband and wife had reported the same to the media on June 25. As there no charges pending against Rajashree, the Balasore District & Sessions court dropped charges of domestic violence (DV) leveled against them by Barsa in March this year thus providing a level of relief to Mohanty and his wife, Pritilata.

In 2013, Barsa had lodged a dowry violence case at the Balasore Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court against her alleged husband in which she made her father and mother in-law as parties. The former Law and Urban Development Minister and his wife were arrested from West Bengal later the same year.
