Season’s first rainwater reserves to be released by Hirakud Dam on August 5

Bhubaneswar, Aug 3: This season’s first rainwater reserves of the Hirakud Dam will be released on August 5, as a part of a flood control measure.

The chief engineer of the dam, Harmohan Pradhan said that, as the upper catchment of river Mahanadi in Chhattisgarh has received a good rain fall, the water level in the Hirakud reservoir reached 611.47 foot by 10 am yesterday. As per the standard operating procedure, the water would be released from the Hirakud reservoir. He further added that the water would be released between 10 am to 12 noon on August 5 through seven gates while the final decision regarding this would be taken after reviewing the situation on that day.

The maximum capacity of the reservoir to hold water is 630 feet.

Hirakud authority has requested the district administration to make the people residing in the lower areas aware about the release of water.
