Chief Economic Advisor meets Odisha CM; delivers speech on Economic Survey Outreach

Bhubaneswar, Sep 2: Yesterday Chief Economic Advisor to Government of India, Arvind Subramanian met the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat, here.

Financial inclusion has been severely affected as 75 per cent gram panchayats in the state do not have banks, Odisha Chief Minister told Chief Economic Advisor to Government of India.

The duo discussed on the economic development and implementation of developmental schemes in the state besides improved internet facility and, tourism development. They also had a discussion on the issue of introduction of flight services from Bhubaneswar to South-East Asia, East Asia and Middle East countries.

Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Upendra Nath Behera and Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan were also seen in the meeting.

Earlier in the day Arvind Subramanian had delivered a speech on “Economic Survey Outreach”.  He highlighted on the fact that economic surveys are taken, what is the reason behind them, the Odisha model of development and the importance of integrating technology with governance.

Odisha has impressively cut down poverty rate at a faster rate informed by the Chief Economic Adviser to Government of India, Mr. Arvind Subramanian.  He also further said that Odisha has to move towards model of development which reduces reliance on natural resources. Odisha should focus on labour intensive, manufacturing and tourism sectors. Textile sector looks promising for Odisha as the government has passed a package to encourage this. Odisha should focus more on tourism, textile sectors informed Mr. Subramaniyum.
