Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: BJD MLA Muktikant Mandal, who had earlier surrendered before the Additional District Judge (ADJ) Court on Thursday in connection to Niranjan Jena murder case following the Orissa High Court order, was later granted conditional bail by the court against Rs 25,000 bond and two bailers.

Notably, Mandal had applied for an anticipatory bail which was rejected by the High Court on October 20. The High court had directed him to surrender before the lower court and had also ordered the lower court for the trial of Mandal along with other accused in the murder case.

Niranjan Jena from Sugo village was abducted and then murdered by 20-25 men including Mandal. Duhsashan Jena, deceased Niranjan’s uncle had lodged a case with the police alleging involvement of six persons including Mandal.

However, Duhsashan moved to the High court as the police had excluded Mandal’s name in the charge sheet. The High Court later directed the Bhadrak Sessions Court to include Muktikant’s name as an accused in the murder case and finish its trail within six months. Following the High Court’s direction, Mandal had applied for an anticipatory bail.
