New guidelines formulated by State Government for dance bars, liquor shops

Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: With a view to ensure security, dignity and safety of the dancers of dance bars, a set of new guidelines have been formulated by the State government. Moreover, new guidelines have also been framed for the liquor shops located on National and State highways.

For bar dance girls, they will have to submit an identity proof with an undertaking stating about their willingness to perform at the dance bar to the State Excise department for approval. Proper check on the rules, whether the bar license is being followed or not, will be conducted by the Commissonerate police. All the dance bars will install CCTV cameras through which the Excise department will keep a check on the footage at regular intervals.

The rules have been framed for the protection of bar dance girls. The owners of the bars will be considered as accountable if any accident is reported during the performance, Damodar Rout, Excise Minister informed.

On the other hand, out of the 704 liquor shops located on National and State highways, 649 have been shifted 50 metres away from the highways, and 48 have been closed down. Cases of 7 others are pending in the High Court. As per the new guidelines, the closing time of liquor shops on highways has been restricted to 8 PM.

As per the information from Excise department additional secretary, Pramod Kumar Panda, Liquor shops alongside municipal and NAC roads have been excluded from the 8 PM closure restriction.
