Bhubaneswar, Nov 3: The disease Japanese Encephalitis (JE) has crossed the border in Malkangiri and reached Koraput with the death of two children in Koraput on Wednesday. One child in the district died on Tuesday, while another child identified as Laxman Tara from Baipariguda area allegedly succumbed to the disease on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the State government began its training program for vaccination against the vector-borne disease on Wednesday.
As per Laxmidhar Kabi Koraput CDMO, after the blood samples of a person, who died due to the disease on Wednesday, were sent to the lab for testing, the samples had the JE symptoms.
Besides, 18 affected patients are undergoing treatment for the disease at the Malkangiri district headquarters hospital (DHH). One 10-year-old girl has been tested JE positive, who is undergoing treatment at the DHH, after her blood samples were sent for testing.
As per Kalyan Sarkar, Malkangiri ADMO, there are cross positive cases between dengue and JE may times. Thus, a check will be kept for all the JE positive cases.
Meanwhile, the training program for JE vaccination as suggested by the Central expert team began in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday and in the initial phase, the program will be carried out in Malkangiri, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Jajpur districts respectively.
