Khurda, Mar 3: The Khurda district headquarters hospital’s doctor who is said to have been abducted by the relatives of an infant who died on Thursday, was safely rescued after his abductors abandoned him at the bypass road near Batamangala Temple here. The name of the doctor is Pradeep Das who is a Pediatrician at the hospital.
The case was that a sick infant of Goudaput village under Khurda sadar police limits was brought to the hospital for check up. After carrying out primary treatment, the infant was asked to be taken to Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack as its heath conditions started worsening. However, the infant died on its way to the hospital in an ambulance. Later, the outraged relatives arrived at the government quarter of the doctor and posed death threats to the doctor following which they forcibly dragged him outside his chair and abducted him on a bike. This was said by the doctor’s cook to the media. After getting information, the police reached the spot and with the help of a special team sealed off the exit points of the city and launched a search operation. But suddenly. post two hours of the incident, the kidnappers dropped off the doctor on the bypass road. The doctor was hospitalized to the hospital. He is said to be a heart patient himself. On the other hand, the employees of the Khurda district hospital launched a protest and staged dharna against repeated incidents of attacks on doctors and other employees thus demanding an out-post on the premises of the hospital. The irate employees further demanded for a written assurance stating that the kidnappers would get arrested within a span of 24 hours. This was said by Rakesh Khandayatray, one of the protesting medical employee. Khurda additional SP, Pratap Kumar Swain said that an investigation is being conducted based on the filed complaint and stringent action would be initiated against the accused.
