Illicit animal parts racket busted by crime branch in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar, May 31: On Monday a special team of Crime Branch and City Forest Division unearthed a racket of selling animal body parts on the pretext of them being ‘plant and astrology’ products online. The accused person has been detained and the cops have seized 210 dried sexual organs of monitor lizard parts while raiding at Bramheswarpatna area here. The wildlife crime control bureau had got the information regarding such illicit trade online and so alerted the Crime Branch. It was so that the accused Chintan Joshi procured the animal parts from Ahmadabad and sold the parts in the name of Hata-jodi that is considered to be a powerful astrological item for prosperity. Those products were being sold at a price ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 15,000 on several websites.

Special Director General of Police (Crime Branch) BK Sharma tweeted, ‘Wildlife Crime Cell of Crime Branch is investigating the case registered under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972,”.
