Rourkela, Nov 22: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) will construct 30 kennels and create other facilities in the Government Veterinary Hospital, Panposh as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The foundation of the first such kennel was laid at Panposh by Rourkela ADM K Sudarshan Chakraborty on Friday.
This initiative is being undertaken as a part of the animal birth control programme.
RSP plans to spend nearly Rs 28 lakhs for development of infrastructure like construction of 20 kennels for the operated dogs, 10 kennels as isolation ward for the sick or rabid dogs as well as an operation theatre along with necessary infrastructure/equipment/
Notably, there are about 4500 street dogs in the Steel Township. Since the beginning of the project in January 2015, 286 dogs have been sterilised.
