Odia language chair to be set up in JNU

Bhubaneswar: A special chair will be set up in the Odia language, literature and cultural courses of studies at the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.

This was decided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here today. He approved the proposal for beginning the Odia chair at Centre of Indian Languages in the JNU soon.

The move is a part of the initiatives taken by the State government for the development of Odia language after it was designated as a Classical Language in India. It is the 6th classical language after Sanskrit, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.

By setting up the Odia chair at JNU, this will promote the research on Odia language and Culture.
