Bhubaneswar: August 26: In a tragic incident, an elderly man from Kalahandi District of Odisha, died after jumping into the funeral pyre of his wife.
This has happened at Sialjodi Village under the Golamunda Block of Kalahandi.
As said, Raibari Sabar of 60 years age, died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday. Her relatives and others took the body to the local crematorium for last rites and it was done in the presence of all.
When all of them were about to back home after finishing the ritual, Raibari’s husband Nilamani Sabar aged around 70 years, lost his mental balance and ran to the cremation ground.
Suddenly he jumped into the funeral pyre.
People present there tried to rescue Nilamani, but he succumbed to burn injuries, said the villagers.
An unnatural death case has been registered in this connection in local Police Station.
