Birendra Lakra Announces His Retirement

Olympic bronze medalist Birendra Lakra has announced his retirement from hockey. Confirmed by Hockey India through their Tweet.

Lakra was the vice-captain with a strong defender of the Indian hockey team. “He is also happy with his retirement” says Hockey India personnel . Birendra was born on February 3, 1901 in Lachchada village of Sundargarh district of Odisha.

He has also played 201 matches for India. He was also a member of the Indian hockey team at the 2012 London Olympics, along with the Tokyo Olympics. He was the vice-captain at the Tokyo Olympics 2021. As vice-captain, he played an important role in the Tokyo Olympics. Which we won a bronze medal after 71 years. Rupinder Pal, another Indian hockey star, also announced his retirement from the Indian hockey team this morning.
