Essar Minmet Ltd Proposes To Set Up A Greenfield Pellet Plant
Essar Minmet Limited (EML) has proposed to set up a Greenfield Pellet plant in Paradip of Jagatsinghpur district, Odisha for production of 14 MTPA Pellets. The proposed pellet plant is envisaged to produce both Blast Furnace (BF) grade (70-75%) and Direct Reduction (DR) grade (25-30%) pellets, which will be sold to the international as well as domestic market.
As per the proposed project, it will be a Greenfield project which involves setting up of iron ore beneficiation plant at Tikarpada and Kadagarh Village in Keonjhar District, Odisha to produce Iron Ore concentrate which would be converted to slurry form for transportation to the proposed 14 MTPA Pellet of EML at Paradip via slurry pipeline of about 250 km length for production of pellets.
Company sources said, it has designed a well-planned air, water and environment pollution control system, which shall mitigate any adverse impact on air, water and environment.
The most unique part of the plant mechanism is water management. Essar Minmet Limited shall use a new technology to minimize the water requirement. It is said, water requirement will be met by water recovered from slurry dewatering, which is new to the country. By this process, 1/3rd of Water can be saved.
Regarding the employment opportunities, company has a clear commitment. As planned, it will generate indirect employment opportunities to the tune of 700 and 50 direct employment opportunities during construction phase.
Subsequently, during Operational phase approximately 149 employees will be employed directly. However, there will be indirect employment of about 450 employees. Maximum jobs will be available to the locals and guidelines of State Govt will be followed in this regards.
Essar Minmet has drawn a broad plan for Socio-Economic Activity. As per the directions of MoEFCC, EML will reserve the funds and chalk out a monitorable physical action plan with time schedule to address the concerns raised by the public during the Public Hearing and issues arising from social need assessment.
Implementation of these activities would commence from the initiation of construction activities. Major areas of socio economic development activities based on this Public Hearing and Social Need Assessment would be Education, Vocational Skills Training Program, Community Healthcare, Women Empowerment & Livelihood Promotion, Transport & Communication System, Community Infrastructure and Environment Protection
