Odisha Weather: Deep Depression To Move Towards North Madhya Pradesh And Weaken

Under the influence of a deep depression over the previous 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded in several areas of Odisha. Light to moderate rain/thundershower has occurred at most places over the districts of Odisha with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places at the district of Balasore and Kandhamal of Odisha.

According to IMD data, Odisha’s Bhograi of Balasore district had the most rainfall (226 mm), followed by Phiringia of Kandhamal district recorded 211mm of rainfall.

As said by IMD, heavy to heavy rainfall (7-20cm) is very likely to occur in the next 24 hours at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, and Bargarh.

Further, it has been added by IMD, that yesterday’s deep depression moved west-northwestwards and crossed West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha coast between Sagar Island and Balasore close to Digha during 1900-2000 hours IST of 19th August 2022 and further moved west-northwestwards and now lies over South Jharkhand and adjoining North Odisha.

Further, it has been predicted that it would continue to move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh towards north Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours and weaken gradually.
