While the Mahanadi flood situation is progressively getting better, the Subarnarekha river system is currently under threat of flooding as a result of the persistent rains brought on by the deep depression.
According to the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Pradeep Jena, the deep depression system caused significant rainfall in several districts, including Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and neighboring Jharkhand.
Government sources said, following the discharge of approximately 6 lakh cusecs of water from the Galudih barrage by Jharkhand through 16 gates, high flood levels are anticipated in Balasore and Mayurbhanj. Subarnarekha downstream will see significant flooding as a result. At Jamsola, the water level is 4 meters above the danger point. The areas of Baliapal, Bhograi, Jaleswar, and Basta will be impacted.
The SRC stated that compared to the flood of 2008, the impact of the flood will be greater. We need to be on guard because there’s a chance that things will get worse. We hope that Budhabalanga won’t experience anything akin to a flood.
The SRC announced that five NDRF, four ODRAF, and 12 fire services teams had been sent to the district’s most susceptible locations for rescue and relief efforts and that the Balasore administration had been placed on high alert.
