Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor and Chancellor of Universities, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati has underscored the vital role universities play in shaping a robust educational ecosystem that will contribute to India’s broader vision of development.
Speaking at the Conference of Vice Chancellors, focused on the future of higher education in the state, Dr. Kambhampati said, “Our universities form the foundation of Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat. As academic leaders, you bear the responsibility to foster excellence, drive reforms, and ensure our institutions remain dynamic centers of knowledge.”
The conference brought together key stakeholders, including Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, ministers, secretaries from various departments, and senior university officials. The gathering aimed to discuss and address the pressing issues that will shape the academic landscape of Odisha in the years to come.
Dr. Kambhampati emphasized the importance of implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in its entirety, recognizing it as the key to transforming the educational ecosystem. He called for the timely conduct of examinations, swift publication of results, and prompt distribution of certificates to ensure an efficient and seamless academic experience for students. He also highlighted the significance of high-quality research, positioning it as the engine for societal innovation and progress.
Addressing key governance issues, the Governor urged universities to adopt transparent fiscal management practices and conduct regular audits to ensure financial accountability. In light of growing concerns over student safety, Dr. Kambhampati addressed the increasing incidents of sexual harassment in Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs), calling for a zero-tolerance policy and preventive measures to safeguard students and create a secure academic environment.
The Governor also highlighted cyber security as a critical area for intervention, calling for heightened awareness and proactive measures to protect students and institutions from online threats. On a more positive note, Dr. Kambhampati encouraged greater participation in the National Cadet Corps (NCC), stressing its role in instilling discipline, leadership, and a sense of national service among students.
The conference also saw participation from several prominent figures, including Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Ministers Prithviraj Harichandan, Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Suryabanshi Suraj, and Sampad Chandra Swain. Each minister reaffirmed their department’s commitment to making higher and technical education more dynamic, relevant, and aligned with global trends.
Key topics discussed during the conference included the implementation of NEP 2020, enhancing research programs, improving academic ambiance, and ensuring timely publication of results. Other areas of focus were promoting NCC enrollment, addressing issues of sexual harassment in HEIs, enhancing cyber security awareness, conducting regular audits, and adopting e-office platforms for seamless governance.
The conference also highlighted the importance of accreditation through the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the promotion of teachers through the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
