Actor Amit Sial Enthrals Audience at 5th Kalinga Global Film Festival
Bhubaneswar: December 17: A well-designed Film Festival, rare to its kind, 5th Kalinga Global Film Festival (KGFF), came to an end on 15th December’2024, here at Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha. The guest of the occasion, actor Amit Sial stole the spotlight at the closing ceremony. Known for his critically acclaimed performances in TV series like Maharani and Jamtara and films like Titli, Sial captivated the audience with his reflections on cinema, culture, and his admiration for KIIT University.
During an engaging interaction, Sial was asked about acting in Odia cinema. He responded enthusiastically, “If the story is good, I will definitely act in an Odia movie.” He went on to emphasize the immense talent in India, saying, “We have amazing talent in our country. Tribal dances and music, which used to be a staple in old movies, should find a place in today’s cinema too.”
Sial also praised the rich culture and traditions of Odisha and lauded KIIT and its Founder, Dr. Achyuta Samanta. “What Dr. Samanta is doing is quite admirable. I traveled across the campuses, and all of them are mesmerizing. This visit has been truly memorable,” he remarked. Earlier in the day, students greeted him at the KISS campus with traditional dance and songs.

The actor delighted the audience by answering questions from students. When asked about his singing habits, Sial said, “I can sing a few Kishore Kumar songs.” He then mesmerized the gathering by singing the classic “Hume Tumse Pyaar Kitna”.
On his favourite roles, Sial mentioned, “The character I played in Titli, Savarkar, and the character in Maharani are among my favourites.”
The closing ceremony also featured Anant Mohapatra, an acclaimed theatre and Odia film personality, who shared his insights on cinema and storytelling.
KIIT and KISS Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Saranjit Singh, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Debashis Bandopadhyay, and Registrar Prof. J.R. Mohanty were present. Prof. Bandopadhyay proposed the vote of thanks, marking the end of the three-day festival, which began on December 13.
Under Dr. Samanta’s visionary leadership, KGFF has grown into a premier platform for celebrating cinema and fostering cultural exchange. This year’s festival, organized under the guidance of Himanshu Sekhar Khatua, Director General of the KIIT School of Film, Fashion, and Media Studies, showcased 45 films, including feature films, short fiction, documentaries, and student projects, across multiple venues on the sprawling KIIT campus.
