Bhubaneswar: August 02: India entered into Men’s Hockey Semi-finals at the Tokyo Olympic Games. The united team fought like a lion & won the game against Great Britain with 3-1 difference.
Indian Forwards Dilpreet Singh, Gurjant Singh, and Hardik Singh scored for India while Sam Ward reduced the margin off an indirect penalty corner.
But, we all must thank to Indian defenders and goalkeeper Sreejesh for the victory as they defend the Great Britain attack well.
Great Britain had earned the first penalty corner of the match in the third minute. But, due to Amit Rohidas, Great Britain failed to take a clear shot. Further, India scored the first goal in the seventh minute.
Most of the time, India was dominating the midfield and goalkeeper PR Sreejesh stood like a wall and prevented the British attack well.
Indian Coach Australia’s Graham Reid hailed the performance of PR Sreejesh to outwit Great Britain.
India under Manpreet Singh could seal a place in semi-finals for the first time since 1972. India won the game with brilliant performance and fought unitedly to secure its berth in semi finals.
It will face Belgium in the Semi-Finals and Victory over Belgium will put India in the final for the first time since the 1980 Moscow Olympics when they beat Spain to win their eighth and last gold medal in Olympics hockey.
In case of a defeat from Belgium, India shall fight for a Bronze Medal at least.
